A 4 days lockdown period has been declared for Honiara Emergency Zone starting tommorow, 25th January 2022 at 6pm to 6pm Saturday, 29th January 2022.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare made the announcement this afternoon in a nationwide address.
He says that the virus is spreading because people are being infected and are unknowingly spreading the virus by moving around freely.
The Prime Minister says Honiara is now the epicenter of the outbreak and it must be contained and controlled.
He says there are cases being recorded in the provinces, and is likely to spread further as more tests are being conducted.
Sogavare is appealing to the public and the private sector through the SICCI to work together and fight the virus. This means staying at home and respect the lockdown and to assist in the provision of food supplies or vehicles for logistical purposes.
He says an assessment will be made before the expiration of the lockdown as to whether it will be extended.
