Mr Thompson Mae has been appointed Registrar of the High Court and Court of Appeal of Solomon Islands, Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer announced.

The Judicial and Legal Service Commission (JLSC) approved the appointment, which was conveyed through the Ministry of Public Service last week.

Mr Mae has been Acting Registrar of the High Court and Court of Appeal since 6 August 2026, after the former Registrar's contract expired. He previously served as Deputy Registrar of the Court of Appeal.

He joined the National Judiciary on 25 October 2019 and has spent seven years serving the Court of Appeal. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and a Professional Diploma in Legal Studies (PDLP) from the University of the South Pacific (USP). Mr Mae is 33 and comes from Kwara'ae, Malaita Province.

Sir Albert, speaking for the judges, magistrates and staff of the National Judiciary, welcomed Mr Mae to the post. The judiciary said the job would bring greater responsibilities, but that what he had learned in his years at the courts would help him carry them out.

The Chief Justice also thanked the former Registrar, Mrs Myonnie Tutuo-Ofaga, for eighteen years of service to the judiciary and to the people of Solomon Islands. The judiciary said she had a pioneering part in the development of the Justice Management Information System (JIMS) and, more recently, in the Electronic Filing (E-Filing) initiative, which it said had progressed since 2025 and had helped improve the registration and management of court cases.
