The union representing Solomon Islands teachers says has it little confidence the government will honor a court order to meet all outstanding wage commitments, despite ending its strike.
The government, which took the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association to the High Court last week, has been ordered by Justice Rex Foukona to fulfill all teachers’ relevelling dues by the eighth of August and for any problems to be rectified by the 22nd.
A spokesperson for SINTA, Samson Faisi says the union ended a two week strike on Thursday night out of respect for the court order and says it hopes the government will follow suit.
“So far we have very little confidence in them. But I only hope they believe what the say and they live up to what the High Court of Solomon Islands has decided. So if the government is responsible and respectful enough to its own judicial arm, they must learn to respect that order.”
Samson Faisi says the union is prepared to stage another teachers’ strike if the government fails to honour the court order.
