Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua, has donated SBD$1 million towards victims of the recent typhoon that devastated Taiwan.

The donation is the Solomon Islands Government direct cash contribution towards Taiwan's current rehabilitation process after the Typhoon that claimed more than 500 lives two weeks ago.

Dr Sikua handed the contribution to Taiwanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands His Excellency George Chan in Honiara today.

Secretary to the Prime Minister and Cabinet Jerry Manele said the Solomon Islands Government will also contribute indirectly to the same course during a major fundraising drive to be held this weekend in aid of the typhoon victims.

Dr Sikua expressed his profound condolences and sympathy to the people of Taiwan who lost loved ones and suffered the natural disaster.

Ambassador Chan thanked Solomon Islands for their sympathy with the People of Taiwan during these difficult times.

"The people of Taiwan will forever cherish your assistance during these tough times," Ambassador Chan said.
