Solomon Airlines will soon bring in a Dash-8 aircraft to compliment its internal services in the country.

This was confirmed Friday at a brief signing ceremony, that the local Airlines will be bringing into Solomon Islands, a Dash8 aircraft with 36 seats.

The new aircraft will commence with a new Domestic schedule beginning 5th January and will end on or around 8th March 2009.

A statement from the Solomon Airlines revealed that the aircraft will give Solomon Airlines the required capacity to service customers between the provinces and the capital, Honiara and vice versa.

"This aircraft will...assist in the return traffic after Christmas that will fill aircraft and ships from around mid-January to the end of January," the statement said.

The aircraft will also assist students returning or commencing their school year in Honiara and elsewhere in the provinces.

Solomon Airlines said one of their three Twin Otters will be undergoing some major maintenance and the timing of the Dash8 was intended to fill the gap.

The statement stressed that the future of the government's direction in tourism is a key factor for the Airlines to continue with a larger aircraft.
