Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Hon Manasseh Sogavare has called on the Leader of Opposition to proceed in submitting the evidence he claims to have in his possession on the Prime Minister’s involvement in the events leading up to the 5th June 2000 coup to the police for investigation.
The Prime Minister said only by submitting the evidence to the Police for investigation can Dr Sikua’s can the Prime Minister be investigated for any involvement in the events leading up to the coup and be brought to justice if found guilty.
He said one of the reasons for the motion of no confidence that the Independent Leader moved against the Prime Minister in 2007 was this very so-called evidence of his involvement in the pre-coup events and any right minded person would question why the Leader of the Independent Group did not submit this evidence to the police to investigate to ensure the Prime Minister is brought to justice.
“My call to the Leader of Opposition is that he immediately submits the so-called evidence he has in his possession on my involvement in the events leading up to the coup so that the Police can launch an investigation into it,” the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said, “Only by Dr Sikua’s submission of the evidence that he has been keeping to himself all these years to the Police for investigation can the issue of the Prime Minister’s alleged involvement in the pre-coup events be dealt with once and for all by the relevant institutions.
“Only until Dr Sikua submits the so-called evidence he has in his possession to the police for investigation, one would be fully justified in saying that Dr Sikua is on a mission to bring down the Prime Minister for no good reason at all but fabricated information that only serves selfish political agendas. This so-called evidence could have been given to the Police after the December 2007 motion of no confidence.
