The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF), last Friday 13 July through an appointed selection panel had finalized its training squad for the upcoming FORU 7s tournament that will be played in Sydney, Australia on the 24th and 25th of August 2012.
Thirty seven players had been named in the extended squad and are hereby called on to attend their first training session on Friday morning from 6:00am to 8:00am at the Kukum Campus field.The players are;
Stewart Baiabe, Jeffrey Hokisaki, Cameron Suamoana, Bruce Baiabe, Baptist Kelesi, Tamua, Elwin John, Ezekiel Tai, Metcalf Sa'atai, Greezar Pongi, Siniu (Luapel), Fraser Manau, Leslie Ngiumoana Puia, Brian Sikua, Kelly Kemaika, Bazzo Kelesi, Jonathan Ma'itaki, Joseph Wale, John Bakila, Eugene Tepai, Garret (Luapel), Steven Momoa, Tongaka (Avaiki), Shane Angikimu'a, Samson Koti, David (Diesel), Chris Saru, Mark Philip Aisa, Felix Qalo, Ronnie Sa'omatangi, Francis (Diesel), Lingeris (Marist), Ueteri (Marist), Humphrey (Marist), Hendry (Marist), Solly Ngiungata'a, and Freddy Tagini.
The squad was picked from the Solbrew 7s Series that has and is currently played in Honiara and will go through training for the next five weeks with the final twelve to be picked closer to the travel dates to represent Solomon Islands in this year's FORU 7s Tournament that will be played in Sydney at the end of August.
The SIRUF Executive Committee in its executive meeting on Monday 16 July formalized the appointment of the management team that will lead the men's sevens squad for this year and they include, Andrew Kerr - Team Manager, Keith Namona - Head Coach, Ike Katene - Technical Assistant and, Freddy Kafoa - Technical Assistant.
Ten countries have confirmed to participate in the upcoming FORU 7s Tournament. They are; Australia, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Niue, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Tonga.
