The Shortland Islands Constituency Office has completed delivery of its 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) programme, according to a statement published on the Solomon Islands Government portal under the Ministry of Rural Development on 17 September 2026.
The statement said the shipment, which began early this month, was the third and final delivery after two earlier ones in the last quarter of 2025 and early 2026. It completes the constituency's 2025 CDF allocation of $5 million, made up of $3.2 million through the CDF Preferred Supplier Arrangement and $1.8 million as a grant, and is the largest distribution the constituency has received, according to the statement.
The items include building and hardware materials as well as 57 boats and 57 outboard motor engines, the statement said. The People's Republic of China paid $1.5 million for 16 of the boats and engines under the Rural Sustainable Development Programme, which the ministry implements, according to the statement. It also lists 40 water tanks, 15 solar freezers, a solar-powered walk-in cool room, 2,606 bags of cement, 1,500 sheets of plywood, a borehole drilling machine and a desalination machine.
Member of Parliament Isikeli Vave Jnr called the delivery a defining moment for the constituency, pointing to the Mono Island cool room and storage facility and the constituency's first desalination machine, the statement said. He thanked the government, the ministry and China for the funding and urged residents to use the projects fully.
Constituency Development Officer Bernard Vave said the shipment covers the four project categories required under the CDF Act 2023, and that 2026 projects will be delivered once the national government allocates funding, according to the statement.
The ministry's Permanent Secretary, John Misite'e, congratulated the constituency and said the government is still committed to backing constituency offices despite limited resources, the statement said.
The constituency office also donated 100 cartons of noodles, 3 glass canoes, 3 paddles and 2 sewing machines to Saint Annes Rural Training Centre at Nila to help its recovery from Cyclone Maila, according to the statement.
