Schools will re-commence on April 27 but not for everyone.

Speaking during a Radio Talkback show, Permanent Secretary, Dr. Franco Rodie says all schools will commence except for schools on Guadalcanal, Honiara, Noro, Munda, Choiseul Bay and Shortland Islands.

He says only Forms 3, 5, 6 and 7 from the other provinces will resume classes.
“All students in other levels as early childhood education, primary classes 1 to 6, secondary, forms 1, 2, 4 and vocational training schools in all locations should remain at home until further advice from my ministry”, Rodie said.

He said the education ministry will make an assessment after the first week of school for the first group.

He said this will ascertain whether all schools should resume classes. Noro, Munda, Choiseul Bay and Shortland Islands though not in an emergency zone are disallowed to resume classes because they are classified as ‘high risk area’.

Solomon Islands has no confirmed cases of the COVID-19, the latest two suspected samples have returned negative.

A State of Public Emergency exists in Solomon Island, with Parliament recently extending the initial 7 days declaration to 4 months.
