The Police yesterday arrested and charged Honiara Private lawyer Charles Ashley, in relation to the misappropriation of more than one million dollars.

The police media office says officers executed search warrants at Mr. Ashley's house and his law firm, located in Naha, early yesterday morning.

Mr. Ashley, 43, has been charged with 27 counts of Conversion, one charge of Money Laundering and a charge of False Pretences.

The Director of the National Criminal Investigation Division NCID, Acting Chief Superintendent Silas Karani, said that this is the second arrest in recent weeks "of people who seek to gain advantage illegally from corrupt practices."

The police media office says the arrest is the result of meticulous work by the police over a number of months which also involved all officers from the recently established Corruption Squad.
