Ships berthing at Honiara Wharf will not be paying fees for a month.

The Solomon islands Ports Authority has issued a notice saying all charges will be removed completely for ships berthing at the Honiara domestic terminal.

"This action is taken to support the government's request to the general public to repatriate to their respective provinces and islands as the country is embracing the impact of Covid-19 pandemic", the notice said.

With this the Solomon Islands Ports Authority is requesting ship owners to reduce sea fares to assist public to repatriate to their provinces during this period of emergency.

The removal of charges will run from the 30th of March to 30th of April 2020.

The international terminals will continue as normal. This means Honiara and Noro international sea port will remain open for all essential services.
