The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) said it is looking into a video shared online that allegedly shows a group of boys, who call themselves the "Nine Six Gang", attacking a student at Tuvaruhu after he graduated.

Police said the group is allegedly moving about in numbers and verbally insulting people, then joining together to assault those who respond.

The locations linked to the group have been identified, police said, and residents of the areas the boys come from are helping officers with the inquiry.

Those involved will be dealt with under the law, police said, and the RSIPF warned any boys thinking of starting a gang of this kind to weigh the consequences. "Police will not tolerate this type of behaviour, and those involved will face strict legal action," the force said.

Police also told parents and guardians it is their job to raise children who are respectful, disciplined and well behaved from a young age, both at home and around the community. "Good behaviour begins at home," the RSIPF said, adding that parents have a vital part to play in how their children grow up.

Children who are not properly guided or supervised can end up behaving badly, according to police, who urged parents and guardians to take an active part in raising them and to work with officers and others in the community to keep neighbourhoods peaceful and safe.
