The Police Traffic Centre is investigating the circumstances surrounding a motor vehicle accident which killed two people and left others seriously injured. The accident occurred at 2.00am on Saturday morning.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the pick up truck was allegedly travelling at high speed on the wrong side of the road and rolled over when the driver tried to negotiate the Honiara City Council roundabout.

The passengers in the back of the pickup truck were thrown from the vehicle when it rolled. Two of the passengers were pronounced dead shortly after they were taken to the National Referral Hospital.

Director of Traffic, Superintendent Albert Samani, said that this accident is a reminder that riding in the back of a pick up truck or utility can be dangerous.
"There are indications that speed may have been a factor in this incident".

"This is a tragic accident and serves as a warning to people of the dangers of riding in the back of pick up trucks," Superintendent Samani said.

Police from the Traffic Centre would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the activities of the driver and passengers in the lead up to the fatal accident.
