A suspended team leader at the Inland Revenue Division (IRD) has been arrested and charged over an alleged breach of the duty of secrecy provisions of the Tax Administration Act 2022, police said. It is the latest arrest in the Taskforce Janus investigation.
Police allege the officer passed on protected taxpayer information obtained through official duties, without lawful authority. The team leader was released on strict conditions and is due before the Honiara Magistrates' Court on 5 November 2026.
The arrest follows an investigation that began in late 2025, police said, after a complaint was referred to Taskforce Janus by the Commissioner of Inland Revenue through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
Taskforce Janus is a joint-agency taskforce made up of specialist officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Ministry of Finance and Treasury Internal Audit Office. Police said investigators have gone through documentary and electronic evidence, interviewed witnesses and put questions to government agencies, private organisations and the public.
Two suspended officers were arrested earlier in connection with the same investigation, police said. Investigators are still assessing evidence and following further lines of enquiry, and the taskforce said enquiries remain ongoing.
Police said the case is one of the most significant investigations carried out under the Tax Administration Act 2022, and that investigators are continuing to examine the information gathered.
