The Technical Acceptance Inspection of the China-Aid Auki Road Project in Auki has been completed, the Malaita Provincial Government said on 28 October 2026, with a handover ceremony to follow in Auki on 17 November 2026.
Civil Engineer Mr Lawrence Wawane carried out the inspection with engineers from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MID), joined by provincial government representatives and the project team. On the project side were Project Manager Mr Liu Baodong, site managers from the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), and engineers from the consultants, CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd.
Once the site inspection was over, the Provincial Secretary for Malaita Province, Mr Eric George, signed the Technical Acceptance documents, which were then endorsed by the Permanent Secretary of MID, Mr Mike Qaqara.
Mr George thanked the People's Republic of China, through the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Solomon Islands, for funding the work, and acknowledged CCECC as contractor and CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd. for its consultancy services. He also thanked the successive and current Solomon Islands Government, the provincial government and MID, along with resource owners, local communities, individuals and other stakeholders for their cooperation during implementation.
According to the provincial government, the improved road will make movement safer and more efficient, support economic activities, improve the appearance of the township and lift the wellbeing of the people of Malaita.
The handover is part of activities marking Malaita Province's 43rd Second Appointed Day Anniversary, held under the theme "Creating a Prosperous Future through Partnership and Transformative Empowerment". The provincial government asked residents, businesses and communities to look after the road and keep it in good order, along with other projects delivered with support from the national government and development partners.
