Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has appealed to the local business community and development partners to support Government efforts to contain the ongoing covid outbreak in the capital Honiara.

Sogavare made the appeal today in his special national address in view of the overstretched government resources currently used to battle community transmission in the capital including some Provincial areas.

The Prime Minister’s appeal included vehicles (on borrowed or donated arrangement), food items and medical kits to support health workers and other agencies to assist communities in the upcoming four days lockdown period and beyond.

A classification of the much needed items in the Prime Ministers appeal included 25 Hilux type vehicles, 6 x 3 ton trucks, 6 buses (15- 30 seaters) and basic food items including rice, tinned food, noodles, sugar, tea, and salt.

The vehicles are needed to assist the movement of health surveillance, swabbing and contact tracing teams including police and livelihood officials as Honiara heads into another four days lockdown starting tomorrow.

The Prime Minister directly appealed to retail and wholesale businesses including the Chinese Association to consider this appeal while also extending the appeal to development partners which is critical in any extend lockdown period.
