The Police Commissioner says there were no suspicious circumstances involved in the death of the MP for Shortlands, Steve Laore, at the Pacific Casino Hotel on Wednesday night.

Peter Marshall says police visited the Pacific Casino Hotel after reports that Steve Laore collapsed there yesterday.

Mr Marshall says medical reports have indicated the late MP was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

He says family members have asked for a post mortem examination of the body.

"The report was the Member of Parliament had collapsed in the foyer and he was immediately taken to the national referral hospital. When the police went there the medical authorities said that he had been pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital," said the Police Commissioner.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and we the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force extend our sympathy to the members of Parliament's family and the people of Shortland Islands for their tragic loss."
