Solomon Islands Ministry of Health and Medical Services has taken delivery of a new ambulance, thanks to the New Zealand amphibious sea lift ship HMNZS CANTERBURY for the delivery.

Commanding Officer, Commander David Turner, handed over the keys of the new ambulance to Dr Lester Ross, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and Medical Services at the Port of Honiara Tuesday.

The Petone Rotary club based in Wellington, New Zealand raised funds to obtain an ambulance from Wellington Free Ambulance after learning of the need for more ambulances in Solomon Islands.

After a ceremony in Wellington, the ambulance made its way up North Island to be transported on the HMS Canterbury at Devonport Naval Base.

Safely stowed in the cargo deck, the ambulance was part of the ship's freight that sailed to Solomon Islands.

Shipping arrangements will now be made to transfer the ambulance to Gizo, where officials determined the need was highest.
