A 28 year old man from Houta village in Marau, East Guadalcanal was charged with common assault following his arrest in relation to an assault on a Government Minister on 13 March 2009.
The man reportedly approached the Minister outside the parliament building to hand in constituency project related papers. The Minister was anticipating the document hand over when the offender allegedly slapped him on the face.The man was immediately arrested and taken to Honiara City Police Station where he was lodged pending police proceedings.
The man was later granted bail on condition and is expected to appear in court on 23 March 2009.
