The acting head of the Solomon Islands Police has confirmed the reinstatement of the deputy commissioner Walter Kola.

Mr Kola was suspended earlier this year over allegations of corruption by the former police commissioner, Englishman, John Lansley.

Mr Lansley’s suspension of Mr Kola was followed almost immediately by the government’s surprise decision not to renew the former commissioner’s contract, which was widely expected to have been extended by at least some months.

The acting commissioner Juanita Matanga says the allegations against Mr Kola related to compensation and other issues.

“And I do not want to talk about the past. It has been dealt with and he has been severely punished, without salary for three months. And as we all know, we are human beings, he’s been addressed through that process.”

Juanita Matanga says she expects people to respect the outcome of the cases levelled against him.
