Two foreign fishing boats were held during the weekend and detained at the Point Cruz wharf for further questioning after being caught for illegally fishing in the Solomon waters.

The Japanese vessels, Seifukumaru 78 and Kineimaru 118 were taken by the Patrol Boat Lata for not complying with the fishing vessel conditions of their fishing license.

The Seifukumaru 78 was believed to have been conducting fishing activities without paying the imposed fee for a fishing license. The vessel was later released yesterday.

The Kineimaru 118 on the other hand, is still kept at Point Cruz wharf for further investigation.

Senior Maritime Operation Officer, Charles Fox Sau told Solomon Times that investigation's regarding the vessel has been handed down to the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA).

The Kineimaru 118 was said to have breached the FFA's Fishing Regulation Act and making transhipments outside the ports of Noro in Western Province and Honiara.
