Tony Hughes will give the keynote address at the Pacific Islands News Association, PINA convention in Honiara.

Convention hosts and organizers Media Association of Solomon Islands, MASI, announced the keynote address will be given by Tony Hughes, of the Western Province.

The convention which will begin on Thursday 24 May to Saturday 26 May will examine the Role of the Media in Pacific Economic Growth.

The head of the MASI Secretariat, Alfred Sasako, says Mr Hughes is just the person to provide a thought provoking start on the convention theme.

Mr Hughes, now an economic management consultant, was the first Governor of the Central Bank of Solomon Islands.

He was also Regional Economic Adviser for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, ESCAP.

Tony Hughes is a well respected commentator on issues such as land tenure, public finance, development planning and central banking.
