The Solomon Islands Meteorological services (METS) has issued a heavy rain warning for most of the provinces as of 7am today morning.

The METS office says an active trough lies just South of the Solomon Islands and is linked to a tropical depression West of Vanuatu.

The advice further states that associated clouds and heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected to affect most provinces.

The METS office warns that such weather conditions may lead to landslide and flash flooding, and communities living near hill slopes, rivers, streams or low-lying areas to are advised to take precautionary measures.

Heavy rains have been reported throughout the country.

There have been reports of rivers bursting damaging bridges and cutting off some communities on Guadalcanal.

The capital city Honiara has seen roads flooded on Friday after heavy downpour.
