The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) has detected a number of COVID-19 positive test results from recent international arrivals.

The Ministry is now calling on the public to reinforce and uphold COVID-19 safety measures.
These include:
1. Wearing of face masks in public spaces and on public transportation at all times if possibe
2. Frequent hand washing with soap or hand sanitizer at all times
3. Coughing into bent elbow or tissue and dispose of it properly at all times
4. Implement social distancing of at least a meter
5. Avoid large gatherings as much as possible
6. Get fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Those who are not yet vaccinated are encouraged to get vaccinated at your nearest health clinic and those who are due, should get a booster.

The Ministry says that any persons with flu-like illness need to get tested at the nearest health clinic. Should tests return positive they are to self-isolate at home for at least 7 days.

“During home isolation, avoid close contact with any person in your household and as much as possible, keep all eating and drinking utensils, clothing separate from the rest of the household.

“Should you experience worsening of symptoms, such as coughing, breathing difficulties or flu symptoms please go to your nearest health clinic immediately for medical treatment as we now have medical drugs available to treat COVID-19 patients.

“For our communities bordering other countries, please reinforce and uphold COVID-19 safe measures, as increased border crossings can potentially spark reinfection of COVID-19, or bring new variants into our communities and spark a third wave of COVID-19 infection,” a statement from the Ministry says.

The Ministry says that while the COVID-19 situation in the country has greatly improved, the threat is not yet over. The Ministry says it will continue to provide timely information to the public to take necessary measures to preserve their health, hence this call for the reinforcement of COVID-19 safe measures.
