A workshop organized by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the UNDP Pacific Centre will be held in Honiara early next week.

The idea of the workshop is to bring together senior policy makers from the Forum Islands countries to get to know and understand the issues surrounding Freedom of Information.

Solomon Times was informed that the workshop would come out with a road map on how FOI policies and legislation could be implemented at a national level.

Cook Islands are the only country that has enacted a FOI legislation out of all the FICS.

The FOI was mentioned specifically by Forum Leaders as one of the initiatives under the Pacific Plan Good Governance pillar, in which New Zealand and Australia have FOI laws.

The workshop will be held at the Mendana Hotel with an official opening Monday morning.

12 FOI participants of the workshop will be arriving in the country this weekend in preparation for the ceremony.

Prime Minister Dr. Derek Sikua has been approached to launch the official opening, but it is yet to be confirmed.
