A committee has been formed to help coordinate, facilitate and host cruise ships lined up to visit Solomon Islands through the year.

The 'Citizenship Facilitation Committee' comprise of staff of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Destination Solomons, DJ Graphics Limited, Police and Culture Division with the National Museum of Solomon Islands.

Marketing Manager of the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau (SIVB), Karen Foimua, explained that the committee is formed purposely to help coordinate tourists on cruise boats coming into the country.

"We are looking at ways of improving the tourism sector in the country and this is one initiative that aims at making sure tourists on-board the cruise boats visiting the Solomons enjoy their stop-over," she said.

The committee will host tourists with programs during their visit and also provide entertainment throughout their stay.

"The National Museum is selected to be the main place where visitors will be entertained after a trip around some of our islands and the main city," Mrs. Foimua said.

The SIVB Marketing Manager also confirmed on a cruise boat, Silver Whisper, expected in the Solomons on Friday with about 130 passengers, traveling from the United States of America.
