Children in and around the Honiara city will join millions of children around the globe to celebrate Children's International Day on the 13th of this month, with the theme 'Protectim Pikinini, Healthy, Wealthy Solomon Islands.'

Child Rights Program Officer, Ms. Irish Ketavauvia of Save the Children Australia said that Save the Children along with other stakeholders will be organizing various activities for children on the particular day.

Prizes will be given to the junior category, intermediate and senior category for creative arts, the singing competition, the king and queen show. To add on the excitement, a cart racing competition will be organized and sponsored by Pacific Architect.

Besides the physical activities, Ms. Ketavauvia also stated that a talk back show will be held at the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Cooperation (SIBC) on the United Nation's Child Rights Convention (CRC) focusing on child survival, child development, child participation and child protection.

Ms. Ketavauvia added that the main highlight of the day would be the RAMSI train ride which most kids in town enjoy riding in it as seen during the 30th Independence celebrations.

"This year's Children's Day will improve from last year and we expect children to have loads of fun," says Irish.

Prior to the celebrations, a parade will begin from the Art Gallery to the multipurpose hall, where the event will be held.
