People in the northern part of Guadalcanal welcomes the completion of three new bridges nearby Tenaru 1 and 2.
Minister of Infrastructure and Development, Hon. Stanley Sofu described the opening of the bridges as "another milestone development for my Ministry".Hon. Sofu acknowledged the Japanese government through its Embassy in Solomon Islands for their financial support towards "improving our transport infrastructure".
Speaking on behalf of the Government of Japan, the Charge d' Affaires of the Japan Embassy in Honiara, H.E. Iwanda Akira said the completion of the three bridges "shows the importance that lies in the relationship between the government of Solomon Islands and Japan."
Mr. Akira said the 900,000 Yen (SBD67,293.54) project is to support the Solomons' commercial trade.
"The government of Japan hopes the people will enjoy the bridges as part of the Japanese government's activity to help in building and developing the nation of Solomon Islands," he added.
