Acting Prime Minister, Fred Fono has officially witnessed a joint Riot Demonstration Exercise carried out by the Solomon Islands Police Force (SIPF) and the RAMSI Participating Police Force (PPF) at the Rove Police Grounds today.

Police Commissioner Peter Marshall said the April 2006 riots in Honiara gave police many lessons that helped the force to develop new measures to contain any future riots.

He said police have been developing new strategies for combating riots over the last two years.

Mr Marshall added that SIPF and PPF personnel are embarking on a three-month riot combat training every three months.

Government Officials witnessing the demonstration included the new Minister for Police and National Security Hon. James Tora his Permanent Secretary and other senior officials.
