The University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) will today offifically open its Open Campus in the Solomon Islands.

The visiting PNG Prime Minister Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare and his Solomon Islands counterpart, Dr Derek Sikua will officiate the opening ceremony, while the Vice Chancellor of U-PNG and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Technology, UNITECH with their senior staff members will also witness the occasion.

The Director for the Open Campus, Hugo Kop stated that UPNG will present certificates of achievement and a certificate of alumni to all Solomon Islanders who graduated from the University since 1971. He also added that the University of Technology will present graduation enactment certificates to students who graduated from the University since 1971.

More than 30 former students graduated from both Universities will join the opening to receive their graduate enactment and recognition certificates.

Mr Kop says the U-PNG is committed and serious about helping the people of Solomon Islands with university education.

The campus, established seven months ago, is located at the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education (SICHE). In the past seven months, the campus has been fast gaining popularity amongst Solomon Islanders seeking further education opportunities.
