The United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) said six West Papuans have been killed and four others wounded in what it described as a new massacre by the Indonesian military.
In a statement circulated on 23 September 2026, the movement said the deaths take the number of civilian victims in West Papua in 2026 to more than 60.
The statement is attributed to ULMWP President Benny Wenda, who called on the United Nations General Assembly to raise West Papua during its session.
The movement did not say in its circulated statement where or when the killings took place, or how the figures were compiled.
The ULMWP is a coalition of West Papuan independence groups. It has observer status with the Melanesian Spearhead Group, of which Solomon Islands is a member, and has sought full membership of the group.
Successive Solomon Islands governments have supported raising West Papua in regional and international forums, including at the United Nations.
The Indonesian government has consistently rejected claims of systematic abuses by its security forces in its Papuan provinces and regards the territory as an internal matter.

The figures in the statement come from the ULMWP and have not been confirmed by Indonesian authorities, the United Nations or independent monitors.
