The Solomon Islands National Teachers Association executives have decided to proceed with its planned nationwide strike following disclosure that the Government had never initially budgeted for the re-leveling of its teachers.
In a press conference held by the Association President and General Secretary yesterday afternoon, President Samson Faisi says this issue was already approved in February 2012 but had been simply ignored.
Mr. Faisi says the Permanent Secretary of Education had informed them that the Government had never budgeted for the re-leveling of teachers in 2013.
The SINTA President says there will be no turning back as they will hold a General meeting this Friday to endorse a nationwide strike action to begin on Monday the 21st.
"On Friday we will call a general meeting with every teacher in Honiara including provincial teachers in and around Honiara. We would like them to attend this meeting at the Honiara High school. And from this meeting we will endorse this strike," says Faisi.
