A street celebration will be held in the capital this Sunday to commemorate the unveiling of the "Pride of Our Nation Monument" honoring Solomon Islanders who have worked as scouts and Coast watchers during the Second World War.

Keithie Saunders, a committee member of the Solomon Islands Scouts and Coast watchers' Memorial Trust's Project, made the announcement in a press conference this morning.

She says the unveiling will take place at 9 in the morning at the Memorial Commonwealth Street in Point Cruz and will be followed by an afternoon of entertainment in the commonwealth street.

Different Choir groups from various Churches in the country will perform, including Solo Icon contestants for this year.

Mrs Saunders says the unveiling of the monument will coincide with the Guadalcanal Veteran's Day 2011 and the 69th Anniversary of the landing of the United States Marine on Guadalcanal in August 7th, 1942.

All Honiara residents and visitors are invited to attend the unveiling and the afternoon entertainment.
