Solomon Islands women remain undefeated in the tennis teams event at the Sol2023 Pacific Games, beating Vanuatu 3-0 at Honiara’s National Tennis Centre on Saturday to follow their opening day win over Fiji.
Day two of the tennis teams event began in the morning sun as Solomon Islands’ Zorika Morgan and Georgimah Row, both 24 years of age, demonstrated their skill and determination in the singles matches, securing victories against their respective opponents from Vanuatu.
Morgan defeated Abygail Coeuillet 4-2,4-0 and Row beat Lorraine Banimataku 4-0, 4-1.
These dominant performances in the singles matches set a positive tone for the doubles that afternoon. It was intense and hard-fought, with both teams putting in a commendable effort, but Solomon Islands edged it with Morgan and Row defeating Coeuillet and Banimataku 5-3, 5-4. They told the Games News Service they are happy with the result, but still looking for improvement.
Team Solomon Islands’ ability to emerge victorious in both the singles and doubles matches showcased their well-rounded strength as a tennis team that has seen them unbeaten so far in this tournament. On Monday they will face fellow Group C top performers Tahiti, who have also beaten both Fiji (2-1 on Saturday) and Vanuatu (3-0 on Friday).
