In the ongoing issue regarding a news story of a drugs and guns culture in Samoa by Television New Zealand (TVNZ), the government of Samoa has announced that it will sue TVNZ.

According to the Samoa Observer, the government stated that the news item 'damaged Samoa's reputation as a safe place for tourists'.

The country's police 'are understood to have alleged that some of the people who appeared in the story were `actors' posing as gangsters and drug dealers'.
TVNZ has strongly denied the allegations and is standing by its story, even sending a sworn affidavit to the Samoa Observer regarding the article.

According to the Samoa Observer, the country's Attorney-General, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, 'told The Dominion Post the Government would instruct lawyers Chapman Tripp to proceed with legal action' following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
