Rennell-Bellona Province has commemorated its 29th Second Appointed Day with celebrations at ‘Alava Community in Bellona Wednesday 20th July 2022.

The theme for this year’s celebrations was “Together we promote Good Governance, Cooperation and Partnership to move forward in Development.”

The day was marked with speeches from Provincial and National Government Officials and colorful parade by students from primary schools and performance of dances by groups from the island.

Guest of Honor for the ceremony was the Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga and National Government dignitaries including Minister of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, MPGIS, Hon Rolland Seleso, Ministry of Infrastructure Development Permanent Secretary Stephen Maesiola, Ministry of Rural Development Permanent Secretary Dr. Samson Viulu, Deputy Commissioner Operations of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force, Ms Juanita Matanga, and government officials from the Ministry of Provincial Government and MPA representative for the Guadalcanal Province.

Guests from the Renbel Provincial Government included Premier Japhet Tuhanuku, Deputy Premier Lence Tango and Members of Renbel Provincial Assembly.

Speaking during the celebrations, Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga congratulated Renbel Province and urged the good people of Renbel Province to celebrate the day with remembrance and pride.

“Let us use this day as a day of reflection where we should congratulate ourselves for the challenges we have overcome and achievements we attained during the past years.

“As we celebrate this day, let us all be thankful for our past leaders and people and recognize the sacrifices and contributions they gave to the province over the years,” he said.

Renbel Premier Japhet Tuhanuku acknowledged the past leaders who had the vision to work selflessly to establish the province.

Premier Tuhanuku also acknowledged and thanked the people of Rennell and Bellona for their support to their leaders in pushing for the establishment of Renbel Province.

A good number of people from Bellona Communities attended the celebrations.
