Police arrested a suspected member of the alleged 96 Gang at Marble Street, Vara Creek, over the weekend, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) said, acting on concerns raised by the public.

The suspect is being held at the Central Police Watch House, police said. He faces charges of unlawful assembly and common assault over an alleged assault on a student at Tuvaruhu, and one count of malicious damage after windows at Tuvaruhu High School were allegedly stoned.

Honiara City Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Leslie Kili said the suspect could be remanded at Rove Prison while police try to trace the others allegedly involved. Elders in the Marble Street area are helping police name other youths thought to be part of the group, RSIPF said.

Earlier, on Friday 23 October 2026, five boys under the age of 17 were picked up near the Rainbow Shop in Chinatown over alleged unlawful behaviour, police said, and were tied to reports of theft and threats to members of the public in that area. Those boys are thought to belong to another group, police said, adding that they were still dealing with reports of unlawful behaviour in Honiara communities.

Superintendent Kili said police had already used social media to warn young people that taking part in unlawful activities could have serious consequences. He also called on parents and guardians to guide and discipline their children at home before police had to step in.

Anyone who knows where the remaining suspects are should tell their nearest police station or call Central Police Station on 22999, Superintendent Kili said.
