Papua New Guinea’s Sports Minister Hon. Don Polye says that he will soon formally request the acquittal of K10 Million from the Solomon Islands government.

The K10 Million funding support was to have been used towards the preparations of the Solomon Islands for the Pacific Games.

“It was a commitment we made to the government and people of Solomon Islands, and the K10 Million, according to our records, was paid out two years ago,” Sports Minister Polye told PNG’s Post Courier.

“I am going to write to the Solomon Islands government to present to us the acquittals for these K10m.”

The Sports Minister also revealed that he is preparing a budget submission to Cabinet for PNGs contingent to the Pacific Games in Honiara.

“We have requested K12 Million, which is K5 Million towards preparations by our athletes, and K7 Million will be the Team PNG participation in Honiara at the Pacific Games,” Polye told reporters.

The Countdown to one of the largest events ever to be hosted by Solomon Islands has well and truly begun.

The opening ceremony of the games is confirmed to be November 19th 2023 with thousands expected to attend.
