Prime Minister Dr Derick Sikua has warned public servants to stay out of political debates.

The warning came today amidst the noted increase of the number of public officers who have been using the print media to publish their views on political issues.

Dr Sikua says the general orders prohibit public officers from taking part in politics, particularly asking questions in public on political issues.

He says it also prohibits them from writing letters to the print media or the radio to express views on political matters.

Prime Minister Sikua warns that public officers involved openly in political debates could expect disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, the Press Secretary to the Prime Minister George Atkin says newspaper managers have indicated that they have published public officers articles on political issues under pen-names.
