Prime Minister Dr. Derek Sikua has urged the government and people of Solomon Islands to work in partnership with the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands to ensure that the country moves ahead in peace, unity and prosperity.

Speaking during the anniversary to mark RAMSI's sixth year partnership with Solomon Islands, Dr. Sikua said that Solomon Islands is beginning to witness that capacity building takes root, grows and bears fruits.

Dr. Sikua admitted that the past six years were full of challenges but the strong partnership, commitment and the aims which Solomon Islands and the mission have set themselves to achieve, helped overcome those changes.

Meanwhile, RAMSI coordinator, Graeme Wilson, said the theme "Nation building through sport and involvement in the community" has been selected because he believed that RAMSI's contribution goes beyond helping to restore law and order and to revitalise government institutions.

He said the help also goes to the community and contribution to nation building.

Mr. Wilson said that to see the RAMSI team contributing to creating a welcoming, enthusiastic environment gives enormous pride.

Celebrations to mark RAMSI's six years in Solomon Islands over the weekend involved sports like rugby, soccer, triathlon and netball and various other community activities aimed at creating a stronger partnership throughout the country.
