Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has graced the Guadalcanal Province 2nd Appointed Day celebrations at Visale, North West Guadalcanal on Friday.
Speaking during the occasion, Prime Minister Sogavare took the opportunity to acknowledge the traditional landowners of the land, who have provided guidance and leadership to our nation building over the years.
Prime Minister Sogavare also acknowledged the people of Guadalcanal for their continuous support in the development of Solomon Islands.
“This province and her people have contributed a lot in the development of this nation and have played a significant part in the socio-economic development of Solomon Islands,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare also assured the Hon. Premier and the good people of Guadalcanal Province, that the National Government will continue to work with the provincial government to provide what is necessary and important for the development of Guadalcanal province.
“As demonstrated to you during the past 36 years since achieving your status as a recognized provincial Government, the national Government has provided resources and technical assistance to cater for your human resources needs and development needs.
"The national Government will continue to provide guidance in making policy decisions and encouraging active economic participation and cooperation, and growth for the advancement of this province and the country as a whole,” he said.
The theme of the Guadalcanal Province 36th Anniversary is “Empowering our people for inclusive change and sustainable development”.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the theme is indeed a fitting one during this time and era.
“Your goal to make Guadalcanal province a debt free, financially independent and sustainable is not an impossible dream. It is a possible reality,” he said.
“Fortune favours the brave and this Government stands ready to assist Guadalcanal to achieve this plan by assisting in putting in place institutional structures, regulations, enforcement mechanism and capacity building to make this plan a reality.”
Cabinet Minister’s, Guadalcanal MPs, Government officials, diplomatic dignitaries and the public at large attended the occasion.
