Yesterday, detectives from the Serious Crime Squad charged two adults from Baranabulaka Village in Avuavu with being an accessory to a crime after the fact and for conspiring to defeat justice.

Police based in Avuavu arrested the 68-year-old male and his 55-year-old wife at Baranabulaka Village and transported them to Honiara yesterday.

The couple are believed to be the parents of Alphonseus Toghovotu who is wanted for the attack on the RAMSI officer recently and a 1999 murder on the Weathercoast.

The two adults were interviewed yesterday by detectives from the Serious Crime Squad.

The 68-year-old man and 55-year-old female were both formally charged with one count of conspiracy to defeat justice contrary to section 116 of the Penal Code and accessory after the fact contrary to section 387 of the Penal Code.

The 68-year-old man and his 55-year-old wife appeared briefly in the Honiara Magistrates Court this afternoon but the bail hearing was adjourned for this morning.

Police will be opposing bail and both adults have been remanded in custody until the hearing in the Honiara Magistrates Court today.
