Elections Conducted Satisfactorily: Commonwealth

An Observer Group from the Commonwealth, which observed the Solomon Islands National Parliamentary Elections of 4 August 2010, has produced its final report detailing the generally sound orchestration of the nation's elections, but raising a few key issues on which the country needs to improve upon.
The petition also challenges the Electoral Commission particularly on the election process in these constituencies.

Nine Petitions Lodged

Nine election petitions have been lodged at the High Court so far.

The Solomon Islands chief electoral officer says it's unlikely the petitions against the recent election results in the High Court will be heard before the end of the year.
The two petitions bring the total number of election petitions lodged at the High Court to three, with some more to be lodged before the deadline of September 15.

Chairman of the Taskforce for the winning candidate for East Are'are Constituency on Malaita has defended the victory of Andrew Hanaria as MP for the constituency.
Mr Hatimoana told SIBC News he has a "very strong case against the MP Elect-Mark Kemakeza."

Petition Looms for MPs

First runner up in the Ngella constituency, Johnly Hatimoana, will launch the petition.
