International Coaches from Australia Conduct Training for Athletics

Following its first successful athletics training camp held in Gold Coast, Australia, in mid-March, there is now a ‘Stage 2’ camp for athletics currently being held at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS).

International Athletics Coaches from Australia are in the country running the training camp starting early this week April 24, and to end on April 29.

The coaches from Australia are Sharon Hannan, Peter Hannan, and Kobe Hinton. Sharon and Peter Hannan are considered Australian athletics royalty. Sharon Hannan is one of Australia’s greatest-ever hurdle coaches, guiding Australian Sally Pearson and Liz Clay to success at the top international level.

According to SINIS Performance Manager, Jackie Travertz, there are 11 participants currently camping at the High-Performance Centre accommodation.

“These athletes are from the provinces that have done well during the Solomon games and have been invited to attend the week-long training camp. Seven of these athletes are in the relay team to Gold Coast next month May 5-7,” said Travertz.
