The Prime Minister, Dr. Derek Sikua, has acknowledged the Solomon Islands Public Employees Union for kindly providing service to the people of Solomon Islands.

Speaking at a social function hosted by the SIPEU at Sea King Restaurant last night, Prime Minister Sikua said the government recognizes the importance of all public servants in terms of the services that they deliver to the people in Solomon Islands, both in the rural and urban centers.

Public servants are employees who have pledged themselves in committing themselves to supporting government's works, and the implementation of government policy as required under their respective Ministries, he said.

Dr. Sikua noted the challenge placed on public servants to ensure that people in Solomon Islands stay focused as they serve the nation.

Prime Minister Sikua encouraged public servants to continue "the great traditions of public service".

He reiterated assurance to the SIPEU members of his government's commitment to work closely with them while in power.

Dr. Sikua appealed to SIPEU members "to be constructive in our partnership because my government will always be receptive and open to dialogue with you".

General Secretary of SIPEU, Paul Belande, in response assured the Prime Minister of the support of all 3000 members of SIPEU.

He said the support comes amidst the new government's pledge to work in partnership and cooperation with the Union.

Mr. Belande said that such partnership and cooperation will pave the way to ensuring effective and efficient service delivered to the people in both rural and urban centers.
