The Solomon Islands Futsal coach Dickson Kadau says his side’s disappointing performance at the Oceania Invitational tournament in Auckland is a massive wake-up call.

The Kurukuru mixed wins over New Caledonia and Vanuatu with defeats against New Zealand and Malaysia to finish in fifth place in the eight team tournament.
It comes eight months after an impressive showing at the World Cup in Thailand, where they recorded an historic win over Guatemala.

Dickson Kadau says the addition of Asian Confederation heavyweights Australia and Malaysia was good for raising the standard of competition, but says his team suffered from a minimal build-up.

“It is a wake-up call for my nation, Solomon Islands, if we want to lift up the standard of this code of football in our country. It is a call for us to be well prepared before we can attend this qualifying in a few years time.”

Dickson Kadau says he plans to discuss the prospect of more fixtures with the Solomon Islands Football Federation.
