Provincial Police Commander for Honiara City, Chief Superintendent Nathan Ratu, says police are sad over the death of two young teenagers in a fatal road accident on Wednesday night.

He said that this is tragic considering the accident that killed the two teenagers on the scene was directly linked to alcohol consumption despite repeated police warning on drink driving.

Chief Supt. Ratu said the accident is also a wake up call for young drivers who are often seen speeding around Honiara.

He said the unfortunate accident reminds the public on the need to be careful when behind the wheels and to be responsible on the road.

The Chief Supt. warned that there will be zero tolerance for drink drivers during the festive season.

He said the accident that has been described by witnesses as the "most horrific" involves teenagers from two very prominent families in the Solomon Islands.
