The Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth Mr Ransford Smith is currently in the Solomon Islands on a five day visit.

Mr Smith this morning met Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. William Haomae, where the two leaders discussed issues of common interest among members of the Commonwealth.

Mr Smith is scheduled to hold talks with the Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua this afternoon where both leaders will jointly launch the Commonwealth Pacific Governance Facility and Commonwealth Youth Program Strategic plan at the CYP Center in Honiara.

On Friday, Mr Smith will meet a number of government ministers, heads of diplomatic missions and the Special Coordinator of RAMSI.

On Saturday, Mr Smith will visit the Gold Ridge Mine site in Central Guadalcanal in the company of Deputy Prime Minister Fred Fono.

He will leave Honiara on Sunday afternoon.
