The Solomon Islands Police Force welcomed the country's new police Commissioner Jahir Khan with a parade at Rove field yesterday.

Present at the parade were Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, government ministers and heads of diplomatic offices in Honiara who witnessed the welcoming parade this morning.

In welcoming Mr Khan to the post, the Acting Police Commissioner Walter Kola pledged the Police force's allegiance and support in his plans to improve the service of the force to serve the country.

He says Solomon Islands Police force had matured and is capable in carrying out its duties and with Mr Khan's leadership, he hopes the force will improve further.

He says Mr Khan's appointment as Police Commissioner is the first for Fiji although Fijians have had many interactions with Solomon islanders over decades.

Mr Kola says the achievements and improvements made so far have been through the contribution by RAMSI and the Participating Police force.
