Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) in support through Honiara City Council's (HCC) request facilitated a two-day boxing selection event for the Honiara team to compete in the upcoming Solomon Games.

The boxing selection event involved Honiara Amateur Boxing Association (HABA) and the Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Association (SIABA), and was completed yesterday at the High Performance Centre combat section SINIS.

The selection event was witnessed by the Presidents of HABA and SIABA and their executive members. The event catered for all the boxing clubs in Honiara who attended.

Organizers say the two-day event was a success, and it was good to see HABA and SIABA coming together for such an event.

Boxing at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1963 when it was included as one of ten sports at the First South Pacific Games held in Suva, Fiji.

There are presently ten weight classes for the men's competition at the Pacific Games, known as the South Pacific Games prior to 2011, in accordance with the (amateur) International Boxing Association (AIBA) classifications.
